Working in the Studio
Work on the large Canvey Island map started in May. I have been working in the studio since then stitching the piece mostly by hand.
The marshlands around the edges of the island create beautiful lacey patterns. I am now working on the seed stitched area of Chapman Sands which is a slow task.

The Flood
"She woke up in the night and lay in bed wondering why she had woken. Looked around and saw reflection on the floor, of a light or the moon, don't know what. Was really puzzled - had the mirror fallen on the floor somehow? Just could not think what it was, so put her legs over the side of the bed, to get out and look. Straight into cold water, just inches below her bedclothes. A shock! ... I was very intrigued to think she had been rowed down the garden path instead of walking down it!
Taken from an account by Audrey Lewis of her grandmother's experience of the 1953 flood.
